Most
Episcopalians today, when asked about their stewardship story, start by
saying “When I was a child, my parents…” or “When I was a child, my Sunday
school teacher…” It seems most of us
first learned about the joy of sharing and giving in childhood. Your diocesan Stewardship Commission is promoting the
proposition that teaching our children about stewardship is just as important
today as it was when we were children.
Given the constant drumbeat heard by our children that happiness is
rooted in owning things, in materialism, perhaps it is even more important
today. There needs to be a voice in the
village that offers an alternative to the voices our children hear and see on
television and the worldwide web. The
Episcopal Church offers such a voice in a newly created Sunday school
curriculum titled, “Growing A Grateful Generous Heart.” The four-week curriculum provides lesson
plans for children in kindergarten through grade 6. It also contains suggestions about how to
incorporate our church youth into its activities. Most important, the curriculum focuses on
integrating parents’ stewardship teachings at home with the weekly Sunday
school lessons. And it’s a lot of fun. You can get additional details about
the curriculum by visiting the Living the Good News website at www.livingthegoodnews.com
or by borrowing a copy from Linda Scott at the diocese’s |
